Internet Explorer 11 retirement announcementAs per Microsoft MC378271 announcement, the Internet Explorer (IE) 11 desktop application will be retired on June 15, 2022, on certain versions of Windows 10. This means that the IE11 desktop application will no longer be supported and will be progressively redirected to Microsoft Edge over the following months, and ultimately disabled via Windows Update, to help ensure a smooth retirement. Internet Explorer 11 is not included in Windows 11. Internet Explorer mode (IE mode) is a feature of the successor Web browser (Chromium based Microsoft Edge) which will be providing legacy browser support for applications which can only run on the IE HTML/CSS/Javascript engine. Action items for Windows administratorsMicrosoft recommends that Windows administrators proactively retire IE in their organization before June 15th by using Group Policy. Note that Windows 10 LTSC and Windows Server are not affected. To continue using legacy IE-based sites and apps in Windows 10 and Windows 11, you will need to configure those sites and apps via Group Policy to open in Microsoft Edge using IE mode before the IE 11 retirement date of June 15, 2022.The following action items can also help smooth the transition from Internet Explorer 11 to Microsoft Edge. - Review the Internet Explorer 11 desktop app retirement FAQ article. - Download Microsoft Edge for Business at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/business/download. - Refer to Microsoft App Assure program if you are eligible for further support.- Run the Microsoft browser usage report in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center to have an understanding of which users use which browser versions. - Configure Microsoft Edge policies, including the Microsoft Edge IE mode at your premises by following the Microsoft Edge policy documentation: - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/configure-microsoft-edge- https://admx.help/?Category=EdgeChromium- Run the Enterprise Site Discovery process at your premises.
